Pikhakendonk comprises a region with high nature values and is therefore designated as NATURA 2000 area. The landscape consist of wet grasslands, hegdes and forests. Pikhakendonk contains multiple small ponds, of which several have been recently created as part of a translocation project of Crested Newt (Triturus cristatus). A considerable number of old ponds is currently being restored through dredging and reprofiling pond shores to enhance habitat suitability for aquatic communities.
